Forgive Me Ronnie, For I Have Sinned

Down by eight in the sixth, Cubs stage a ridiculous comeback. All sorts of craziness going on- homerun by Kosuke, Derrek Lee calls it a day and his replacement steps up, Jim Edmonds actually does something with the bat! So why do I feel so lousy? I turned the game off after the fifth..

Now, now, let me explain! It was a crazy day at work and late in the day I needed something uplifting. A 9-1 deficit wasn’t cutting it. Once the Rockies answered in the fifth, that was it for me. I’m usually good at picking up on the magic and the opposition taking back that run is never a good sign. So I packed it in, switched to Pandora and went on with work.

As elating as it was to hear of the comeback, I’m a day-to-day fan. I like to catch most of the games. Wednesday’s comeback against the Dodgers got my heart beating… heck, that whole series did. So it’s disappointing to cash in my chips soon, like leaving the ballpark only to listen to the thrills on the car stereo while stuck in traffic. I feel like I need to apologize to somebody!

What’s funny is that after the intensity of the series with LA, I elected to give Thursday’s game a miss entirely, yet feel no shame whatsoever in missing that one, even as that was a come-from-behind win as well.

Ironically, one reason I haven’t posted as of late is because of my biggest Cubs-related event of the year- finally returning to Wrigley after more than a decade. I was at Dempster’s insane outing against San Diego a couple weeks back and the wind blowing off the lake gave me a terrible cold that lasted almost a week. Rest assured, it was worth it.
